Detection of sinusoidal amplitude modulation in logarithmic frequency sweeps across wide regions of the spectrum.
Many natural sounds such as speech contain concurrent amplitude and frequency modulation (AM and FM), with the FM components often in the form of directional frequency sweeps or glides. Most studies of modulation coding, however, have employed one modulation type in stationary carriers, and in cases where mixed-modulation sounds have been used, the FM component has typically been confined to an...
متن کاملNeural representations of sinusoidal amplitude and frequency modulations in the primary auditory cortex of awake primates.
We investigated neural coding of sinusoidally modulated tones (sAM and sFM) in the primary auditory cortex (A1) of awake marmoset monkeys, demonstrating that there are systematic cortical representations of embedded temporal features that are based on both average discharge rate and stimulus-synchronized discharge patterns. The rate-representation appears to be coded alongside the stimulus-sync...
متن کاملSmooth pursuit of small-amplitude sinusoidal motion.
Subjects used smooth eye movements to track small-amplitude sinusoidal target motions. Target frequencies (0.05 to 5 Hz) and amplitudes (1.9 to 30 min of arc) were in the range of those found in the retinal image during fixation of a stationary target while the head is not artificially supported. Smooth pursuit was poor at high target frequencies in several ways: Large uncompensated drifts were...
متن کامل2D sinusoidal amplitude estimation with application to 2D system identification
In a companion paper [1], we studied amplitude estimation of one-dimensional (1-D) sinusoidal signals from measurements corrupted by possibly colored observation noise. We herein extend the results for twodimensional (2-D) amplitude estimation, which is of interest in various applications, including medical imaging, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), seismology, and many others. In particular, we ...
متن کاملWide-band Harmonic Sinusoidal Modeling
In this paper we propose a method to estimate and transform harmonic components in wide-band conditions, out of a single period of the analyzed signal. This method allows estimating harmonic parameters with higher temporal resolution than typical Short Time Fourier Transform (STFT) based methods. We also discuss transformations and synthesis strategies in such context, focusing on the human voice.
